Infinity Thermostat
I led a creative team to design a digital thermostat and app for Carrier’s premium smart home brand, Infinity. Our mission was to modernize the outdated app and wall controller, positioning Carrier as a strong competitor in the smart home space. We focused on delivering a user-friendly experience that made it easy for homeowners to install, monitor, and manage their energy consumption effectively.
Carrier Residential needed help to define and design a homeowner mobile app and wall control UI for the Carrier Infinity system. Together with my design team, we redesigned both the app and wall controller to bring Carrier to a competitive position in the smart home game.
During discovery, I conducted competitive research on existing interaction patterns, from dials to sliders. We interviewed homeowners to understand which features they valued most in digital climate controllers. Using prototypes, we guided users through key tasks and refined the designs through multiple testing rounds.
To simplify flows and streamline onboarding, we unified the wall controller and iOS app experiences, creating a cohesive design language for interactions, visuals, and navigation across all user journeys.
To keep users centered on the main controller screen, we implemented a card-based approach, enabling menus to slide in smoothly with a subtle micro-interaction.
I ensured my design team created clear, concise documentation—including a style guide, component and interaction libraries, prototypes, and feature flows—to set engineers and QA up for success.
The team also designed a light/dark mode feature to enhance Infinity’s premium feel, aiming to not only serve a functional purpose but also add a touch of elegance and sophistication to homeowners’ living spaces.
